Although the government has imposed restrictions on on-arrival visas for foreign nationals from countries like China, Italy, South Korea, Japan and Iran, Nepal has yet to suspend direct and indirect flights from these countries where the outbreak of the COVID-19 coronavirus is widespread.
The Supreme Court has already issued an order to halt all direct and indirect flights from high risk countries but without a copy of the court order, the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) is unable to take action to implement the decision. The order has to pass through the Office of Attorney General, the Office of Prime Minister and Council of Ministers and the Ministry of Culture Tourism and Civil Aviation to reach the authority.
Although many international flights were cut off after the outbreak, Korean Air some Chinese carriers like China Eastern, Air China and China Southern still conduct daily flights to Kathmandu.
Following the global pattern, domestic flights in the country have also seen a decrease in passenger demand due to decrease in the number of foreign tourists visiting the country.
